"Let the robots do the grind" — how it became our slogan

We take apart one line from a Soviet children's film that became the MILAGPT motto: where it comes from, what the word "vkalyvat" really means — and why our whole philosophy fits inside it.

June 28, 2026 · on a word and its meaning

We have a slogan: "The robots grind — the human is happy." It sounds light, almost like a joke, but behind it stands a precise picture of the future we are building. Let's take it apart down to the root: both the phrase itself and the word it rests on.

A line from 1979

The phrase comes from the musical film "The Adventures of Elektronik" (Odessa Film Studio, 1979). It features the song "How Far Progress Has Come" — music by Evgeny Krylatov, lyrics by Yuri Entin. Its chorus is where our line comes from: "The robots grind — the human is happy." Half a century ago it was a children's dream of the future. Today, for us, it's a working manual.

What "vkalyvat" really means

"Vkalyvat" is a colloquial, earthy word: to work hard and exhaustingly, to work until you're drenched in sweat. Its root is "kol-", from the verb "kolot" — to prick, to split (Proto-Slavic *kolti; related to Lithuanian kálti — "to beat, to forge"). By parts: v- (into, deep inside) + kal- (to prick, to strike) + -yva- (a long, repeated action) + -t.

The image is driving into and hammering something hard again and again: digging, driving piles, splitting. Hence the figurative "to work hard". There are two versions of how the sense of "back-breaking labour" took hold in speech: from real, gruelling physical work, and through 20th-century prison-camp slang, from which the word entered everyday use.

"Vkalyvat" is about straining, bodily labour to the point of exhaustion. That's exactly why the line hits home: the robots take this labour on themselves.

Synonyms: to slog, to toil, to work like a horse, to break one's back, to plod away, to overstrain oneself.

Antonyms: to idle, to twiddle one's thumbs, to shirk, to laze about, to fool around.

Why it's our slogan

MILAGPT is a factory of AI agents. The robots take on the routine: they answer, count, search, keep records, catch leads and never sleep. And the human is freed up for what only a human can do — to invent, create, love, and grow their own business. The contrast between the earthy "grind" and the lofty "the human is happy" is the very essence of the cooperative. The future promised in 1979 has arrived: let the robots do the grind.
