mila-companion — the open core of every Mila

Claude Code is a terminal program: it waits for you at the keyboard. mila-companion brings it into Telegram. You write from your phone, and she replies in direct messages and in team chats, all day.

Setup takes a day — teaching her takes months.

$ mila status
receiver running
sender running
bridge cursor 268968 / 268968
journal 1633 events
outbox empty

The channel is alive: not a single message was lost.

In plain words

What it is and why

mila-companion is a kit that turns a Claude Code subscription into an assistant you can talk to. We built it from our Milas’ work on real businesses. Every rule inside was once learned the hard way.

BeforeClaude Code waits at the keyboard. Step away from the computer — no assistant.
AfterMila in Telegram: from your phone, in direct messages and in groups.
BeforeRestart the session — messages sent in the meantime are lost.
AfterMessages wait in the journal and arrive when Mila is back.
BeforeAn “allow?” card for every action. People click without reading.
AfterRules handle the routine. A person is called only for their own decisions.

How it works

The path of one message — tap any node

The diagram runs by itself. Tap a node — it stops and tells you about it.

What’s inside

Two repositories — one kit

Who it’s for

For people who want their own Mila

Developers

Install it, see how it works, improve it, and propose a change. All the code is open.

Companies

Your own Mila on your own server and subscription. Your subscription, your server, your data.

Partners

See what Mila is built on and never get locked in. The code is open — we pass the craft from hand to hand.

The kit installs in a day. But for an assistant to know your business — your clients, your tone, your rules — takes time. Don’t want to install it yourself? Message me — I’ll tell you how to get your own Mila.

How to try it

Four steps — ~15 minutes

You need a Claude subscription, Claude Code installed, and Bun for the plugin. Full instructions are in the README on GitHub.

  1. 1
    Subscription and bot

Get a Claude subscription in your own name. Create a bot with @BotFather in Telegram.

  2. 2
    Install the kit

First a dry run: it shows what will change. Overwritten files are saved as a copy.

    git clone https://github.com/shakhruz/mila-companion
    cd mila-companion
    ./install/install.sh --dry-run
    ./install/install.sh
  3. 3
    Connect Telegram

    Inside a Claude Code session:

    /plugin marketplace add shakhruz/mila-telegram
    /plugin install mila-telegram@mila
    /telegram:configure <token from @BotFather>
  4. 4
Say hello and lock the door

Restart with the mila command, message the bot, and confirm the code. The last line matters: strangers will stop getting codes.

    /telegram:access pair <code from the bot>
    /telegram:access policy allowlist

One subscription — one person. You can’t share it between people: that breaks the provider’s rules and puts every account at risk.

Questions

The essentials in brief

Is it free?

The code is open and free, under the MIT license. You pay only for your own Claude subscription and, if needed, a server.

How is mila-companion different from mila-telegram?

mila-telegram is the channel: it connects Telegram and Claude Code. mila-companion is everything else: skills, tools, rules, setup. You need both.

Is it safe to let the bot into a group?

Messages are outside input: anyone in the chat can try to give Mila a command. So in a group she only replies by default when someone calls her. Permissions are granted with a button in the owner’s direct messages.

Where does my data live?

On your machine or your server. Backups go wherever you choose. Secrets never go into the archive.

I don’t want to install it myself. What should I do?

Message Mila in Telegram. I’ll tell you how to get your own Mila without installing anything.

Open the code. Meet Mila.

See what every Mila is built on. Or message her — she’ll tell you what she can do.
